This article discusses more details on Dump Value of Diamonds

So we have been to the Diamond Appraiser of the right kind and obtained all the information regarding our diamond jewelry that we required. Now our job is to find the dump value of the diamond collection. Remember me mentioning that Dump value is around 60% of the Wholesale value of the Diamond– well, that is theoretically. It is always good to find out the Dump value of your diamond jewelry for yourself. Also remember that we talked about not taking anything less than this for our diamond jewelry – well, that is the whole purpose of finding the dump value of the diamonds.

So let’s get started.
Jewelry consists of diamonds, colored stones and gold, platinum or silver setting. First we look at diamonds. As I mentioned before, a diamond is valued on the basis of its weight, color and clarity.

The diamond color is graded into the following scale:
D,E,F - Colorless
G,H,I - Nearly Colorless
J,K,L - Slightly Yellow
M,N,O - Light Yellow
P through X - Progressively Darker Yellow
Z - Fancy Colors

Diamond Clarity is graded on the following scale:
Flawless - Free of Inclusions (inside) and Blemishes (outside)
Internally Flawless - Free of Inclusions
VVS-1, VVS-2 – Very, Very Slightly included (flaws mere pinpoints)
VS-1, VS-2 – Very Slightly included (flaws smaller than a grain of salt)
SI-1 – Slightly Included (eye clean)
SI-2 – Slightly Included (some flaws visible) – borderline commercial quality
I-1, I-2, I-3 – Imperfect or Industrial grade

Obviously, diamond price increases with weight and decreases as you go down the scale for color or clarity.
