It brings me a lot of pleasure to write this first blog post for GemsNY.com. In this first post I would like to share a fascinating story of entrepreneurship, courage and success. This is the story of GemsNY.com, New York’s largest supplier of Ruby, Sapphire and other gemstones.
CEO Mahesh Batwara came from India to USA in 1984 for the first time. He had a small inventory of jewels and a little cash to work with. He knew making it in USA would not be easy but he also knew that his 10 years of knowledge in the gem and jewelry business would be assets he could definitely use to succeed. Within the first year he became a vendor for three large jewelry wholesale companies and within five years he was able to have a large size office right in Midtown Manhattan in the Diamond District!
Since then the wholesale company (name not disclosed due to possible conflicts with our B2B clients), has become a multimillion dollar firm selling not only across all of USA but all over the world!

GemsNY wholesale division has had double digit growth every year since starting the company and there is no reason to think that will stop anytime soon. As time went on, visionary Mahesh Batwara thought his business could do very well over the Internet providing low prices to clients never accessible to the masses ever before.
In 2006 CEO Mahesh Batwara finally decided that instead of selling only to the wholesale companies, he would also like to sell directly to the end consumer.
I think it is a win-win situation both for our customers and for us. We would increase our sales and our customers now would be getting the same prices that before were only accessible to the multimillion dollar jewelry wholesale companies. - Mahesh Batwara
To achieve this dream, he thought to take help from his son. So he hired his son Vishnu Batwara, COO, to run the Internet division.
Graduating as an honor student at NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business and being a GIA gemologist and having an excellent understanding of the jewelry business made the decision easy - Mahesh Batwara
This Internet division was named GemsNY. Here at GemsNY we offer a variety of products for end consumers at wholesale prices. The products include loose Diamonds, Ruby and Sapphire and also includes engagement rings, anniversary and marriage rings, bracelets, necklaces and pendants.
